In recent years, the Military Police corps has been recognized as a force of choice capable of successfully conducting military operations across the spectrum of conflict. Gaining this reputation however, took decades of successful conduct of both wartime operations and operations other than war by Military Police soldiers. One unit that has done its share to build the reputation of the Military Police corps, as the force of choice, is the 716th Military Police Battalion.

In December 2004, the 716th Military Police Battalion was again called upon to support the global war on terrorism. This time the Battalioin deployed to Afghanistan in support of combat operations during Operation Enduring Freedom V. A myriad of units were assigned to the Battalion, to include; the 13th MP Co from Italy; 92nd MP Co from Germany; A/1/114th FA Btry from Mississippi; A-3-141st IN Co from Texas; 164th MP Co Alaska; 202nd MP Co from Fort Eustis, VA; 209th MP Co from Fort Polk, LA; 212th MP Co from Germany, 551st MP Co from Fort Campbell, KY; and 5-7 ADA Det from Germany.

Today, the 716th Military Police Battalion continues to serve at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The battalion provides daily law enforcement support to Fort Campbell and is continuously prepared to deploy as directed by XVIII Airborne Corps and FORSCOM. The 716th Military Police Battalion remains the most highly decorated Military Police battalion in the United States Army, and stands poised to continue its proud heritage into the twenty-first century.
